The Clermont Historical Centre has undergone extensive renovations and now boasts a contemporary Interpretive Centre where visitors can learn about Clermont's rich and diverse history. Themed exhibitions share stories about local identities such as Trooper Billy Sing the renowned premier Gallipoli sniper and Rose Harris who rescued several people during the 1916 Great Flood. The current exhibition Anzac Heroes and Heroines can be visited until the end of the year. The exhibition recognises the contribution made by local men and women and tells the story of Sister Beatrice Huston who was the first Queensland nurse to offer her services in The Boer War, paying her own expenses and of Hector Spring D.F.C. who flew bomber planes in World War II and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross for acts of gallantry. The extensive collection of approximately 40,000 artefacts has been contributed by local families and businesses in the region. Some of the items on display include the steam engine which was used to shift the town after the 1916 Flood, the Jacques Diesel Powered Shovel and the Ruston Steam Shovel used at the Blair Athol Mine, a shearing shed, a livery and vintage cars to name a few.eAccommodation welcomes Clermont Historical Centre in Clermont QLD, we offer an experience that takes you on a journey of a life time in Clermont.
